About ply and gauge (gg)Updated 9 months ago

The thickness and overall quality of the product can be determined with ply and gauge.

Ply

The ply is the number of threads twined together to make a single piece of cashmere yarn. If 2 threads of cashmere twisted into 1 piece, it’s called 2-ply cashmere, and 3 twisted threads are referred to as 3-ply, etc.

The ply number is a crucial factor in determining the strength, durability, and texture of the material.

Gauge (gg)

The gauge number is the measure of how densely cashmere yarn is woven or knitted together

The gauge has an impact on drape, elasticity, and overall appearance of the garment.

The higher the gauge number, the tighter the knit, and this can create a smoother, more refined appearance and give the fabric more structure and stability. On the other hand, fabrics with a lower gauge, or fewer stitches per inch, tend to be more open and airy, with more space between the stitches.

The higher the gauge, the thinner the sweater.

Depending on the desired style, comfort level, and intended use of the cashmere garment, cashmere fabrics are knitted or woven in various gauges.

GOBI Cashmere garments are knitted in 2.2gg, 3.5gg, 5gg, 7gg, 8gg, 9gg, 10gg,12gg, 14gg, 15gg, 16gg or 18gg.
